Dmv Form Sp12 PDF Details

For car enthusiasts and vintage vehicle owners in Nevada, the Old Timer license plate represents a special way to acknowledge the historical significance of their vehicles. With specific criteria that stipulate the vehicle must be more than 40 years old, this designation is not just a nod to nostalgia but also comes with a set of benefits and responsibilities. The application process for an Old Timer license plate, detailed on form DMV SP12, is straightforward yet requires attention to certain prerequisites, such as the vehicle's age verification and the submission of a one-time fee that covers both a technology and a prison industry fee, with additional charges applied under certain conditions. Besides the financial aspect, applicants should be aware that personalization of these plates is not allowed, ensuring the uniformity and distinctive appearance of the Old Timer plates. For renewal, a modest fee is required, alongside compliance with emission standards unless the vehicle is certified to have driven less than 5,000 miles since the last annual registration. It is essential to note that first-time applicants are required to visit a full-service DMV office in person, making the process somewhat less convenient but ultimately more secure. The form also mandates the surrender of current license plates if a credit for the unused portion of the current registration is to be transferred, highlighting the state's meticulous record-keeping and the interchangeability of the plates.

OLD TIMER LICENSE PLATE APPLICATION

NRS 482.381

A Nevada resident who owns a vehicle manufactured more than 40 years prior to the date of application may apply for Old Timer license plates. Old Timer license plates are inscribed with the words OLD TIMER and 4 numbers. Personalization of these plates is not allowed. An Old Timer license plate may be issued for any motor vehicle, including a motorcycle.

The first-time fee for an Old Timer license plate is $37.00, which includes a Technology fee and Prison Industry fee . For those motor vehicles exempted from emission testing, 1968 and newer, the Department will collect a onetime fee of $7.00, to be deposited into the pollution control account. These fees are in addition to all other registration fees. The renewal fee for an Old Timer license plate is $11., in addition to all other applicable registration fees.

If your vehicle is currently registered you have the option to maintain your current vehicle expiration date, or renewing for a full twelve (12) month period. Credit for the unused portion of your current registration will be applied. You must surrender your current license plates to the Department in order to transfer this credit.

In accordance with NAC 445B.574, if an Old Timer plated vehicle has been certified, upon each annual registration, to have not been driven more than 5,000 miles since the preceding annual registration, the Old Timer plate may be certified as exempt from compliance with emission standards. If the vehicle is driven over 5,000 miles, a passing emissions test is required for renewal.

PLEASE NOTE: First time application for this plate type must be done in person at a full service DMV Office.
