Form Mv 140Sv PDF Details

The MV-140SV form serves as a critical tool for vehicle owners or lessees in Pennsylvania who seek to adjust their vehicle registration to a seasonal basis, accommodating those with vehicles not used year-round. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for owners of passenger vehicles, motor homes, motorcycles, trucks, or farm vehicles that have a registered gross weight of no more than 14,000 lbs. Depending on the needs, applicants can choose to add, change, or delete the seasonal vehicle indicator on their vehicle record, requiring the completion of specific sections of the form to process their request accurately. For leased vehicles, an additional form, MV-1L, is necessary to provide lessee information. The form prompts for comprehensive vehicle identification details, preferred seasonal registration expiration date—which must align with the vehicle’s insurance cancellation—and acknowledges that a prorated registration fee may apply if the current registration expires before the new seasonal expiration date. This system not only aids in managing vehicle usage and registration but also in planning for insurance coverage adjustments, ensuring compliance with state regulations. Payments for any applicable fees can be made via check or money order, with precise instructions provided to guide applicants through mailing their completed application. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has made this form and additional resources available online, simplifying the process for vehicle owners to manage their seasonal registration needs efficiently.

INSTRUCTIONS

1.Check the appropriate block at the top of the form to indicate whether you are adding, changing or deleting a seasonal vehicle registration indicator on a vehicle record.

2.If adding a seasonal vehicle indicator to the vehicle record, complete Sections A, B and C.

Individuals should list their PADriver’s License (PA DL) or Photo ID# in the space provided. Businesses should list their Business ID#(Bus. ID) where indicated (i.e. E.I.N.).

Indicate in Section B, the month and year the seasonal registration and vehicle insurance will

expire. NOTE: You may choose to backdate the expiration month and year of your vehicle registration. (This transaction will not produce a registration card if it is a month that is already expired. No refund on lost months will be given.) No fee is required when backdating the expiration date if you have already renewed your seasonal vehicle registration and have a current registration card.

When the vehicle’s current registration expiration date is earlier than the chosen expiration date listed in Section B, the prorated registration fee for the additional months is required. For a complete listing of registration fees that can be used to calculate the amount of additional fee required, refer to Form MV-70S, “Bureau of Motor Vehicles Schedule of Fees," found on our website at www.dmv.pa.gov. [Example: Passenger Vehicle - one year registration fee = $39 / monthly fee = $3.25. Chosen expiration date for seasonal registration is September 2021. An increase in fee of $6.50 is required, i.e.: $3.25 x 2 months (August and September) = $6.50.]

Submit a check or money order made payable to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the prorated registration fee. PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH. Mail completed application to: Bureau of Motor Vehicles, 1101 South Front Street, Harrisburg, PA 17104-2516.

NOTE: At the time of the next vehicle renewal, the registration fee for the vehicle identified in Section A should be paid in full, regardless of the number of months chosen for registration. Future registration renewal applications will be sent to you with a special note that indicates you can choose when to send the renewal application and renewal fee to PennDOT for processing. However, the vehicle’s insurance must be reinstated prior to the seasonal renewal application being submitted to PennDOT.

3.If deleting a seasonal vehicle indicator from the vehicle record, complete Sections A and C.

4.If changing the expiration date for a seasonal registration, complete Section A, B and C. The full vehicle registration fee must be paid when changing the expiration date for the seasonal registration and renewing at the same time. For a complete listing of registration renewal fees refer to Form MV-70S, “Bureau of Motor Vehicles Schedule of Fees,” found on our website at www.dmv.pa.gov.
