Form Vtr 852 PDF Details

For enthusiasts of custom vehicles and street rods, navigating the legal requirements to ensure these cherished automobiles are road legal can be a daunting task. The VTR-852 form, officially titled "ASE Safety Inspection and Application for Custom Vehicle or Street Rod License Plates," serves as a critical step in this process. Revamped in March 2012, this form outlines the specifics of what constitutes a custom vehicle or street rod, emphasizing that such vehicles should be at least 25 years old and have been significantly modified from the manufacturer’s original design or constructed with non-original materials. An important aspect of obtaining the special license plates for these vehicles involves a thorough inspection by an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified Master Automobile and Light Truck Technician. This inspection is not merely a formality but a stringent requirement ensuring that the vehicle is structurally sound and safe to operate on public roads. The form demands a detailed examination of various vehicle components—from horn functionality and exhaust systems to steering, brakes, and lighting—according to the model year of the vehicle. Moreover, the VTR-852 form also serves as an application for acquiring custom license plates, delineating the necessary steps for personalizing these plates, thereby allowing owners to showcase their unique vehicles legally and with pride on public highways.
