In today’s stringent educational and professional landscapes, the integrity and moral standing of individuals seeking licensure in various fields, particularly in education, have come under closer scrutiny. The Affidavit of Good Moral Character, utilized by Lourdes University Department of Education, embodies a significant procedural element for assessing the suitability of candidates aspiring to enter Teacher Licensure Programs in Ohio. Instituted by the Ohio Department of Education effective July 1, 1987, and governed by the stipulations outlined in Rule 3301-21-01 of the Administrative Code, this affidavit mandates applicants to attest to their moral integrity. It encompasses a comprehensive inquiry into any past misdemeanor convictions excluding traffic offenses, felony convictions, sealed or expunged criminal records, and any history of disciplinary actions regarding teaching certifications. Moreover, candidates are informed of the implications of pleading "no contest" to offenses, paralleling it with a guilty plea, and the potential for the Ohio Department of Education to review sealed or expunged records. The form further navigates through the protocol for those with prior convictions or unbecoming conduct to contact the Administrator of Investigations, Office of Professional Conduct, at the Ohio Department of Education, thereby bolstering transparency and accountability in the licensure process. The form represents a pivotal step for prospective educators, underscoring the importance of moral character in shaping the educational experiences of future generations, and ensuring that only those who meet the high ethical standards set forth by the State of Ohio are allowed to proceed in their pursuit of teacher licensure.
