In pursuit of maintaining the integrity of its operations and workforce, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) stipulates stringent conditions for potential employees through its Citizenship/Residency Requirement form. This document delineates that applicants must unequivocally be U.S citizens, alongside fulfilling a residency requirement vital for those not currently employed by CBP. The criteria set forth for residency establishes that for three years prior to the application for employment, an individual must primarily reside within the United States or its territories, or alternatively, have served overseas in a capacity linked to the U.S. federal government or military, or have been a dependent of such personnel. The form carefully outlines acceptable conditions under which applicants could qualify for an exception to this rule, provided they supply comprehensive stateside contact information that could affirm their suitability and security clearance. Furthermore, it categorizes responses into distinctive sections, allowing applicants to clearly state whether they meet the residency requirements, exempt themselves due to current CBP employment, or seek an exception by detailing their overseas residency along with credible stateside references. This structured approach ensures that each applicant's circumstances are accurately captured and assessed, reinforcing CBP's commitment to a secure and reliable staffing protocol.
