Dmv Form Vp 242 PDF Details

Navigating the landscape of vehicle ownership and tax exemptions in Nevada can be intricate, especially when a trust is involved. Fortunately, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) provides a route for individuals to claim a Governmental Services Tax Exemption through the DMV VP 242 form. This document is crucial for those whose vehicle registration reflects a trust's name rather than their own. The form serves as a Trust Affidavit, allowing qualifying residents to assert their ownership interest in a vehicle and thereby qualify for tax exemptions under Nevada Revised Statute 371.101 through 371.103. It requires detailed information, including the claimant's relationship to the trust named on the vehicle's registration, alongside specifics about the vehicle itself. Completing this affidavit involves declaring under penalty of perjury that all provided information is accurate and true, underscoring the document's importance in the exemption process. This form, a bridge between individual ownership interests and statutory tax relief, embodies the state's recognition of unique ownership arrangements while maintaining its tax framework integrity.

TRUST AFFIDAVIT FOR EXEMPTIONS

Nevada Revised Statute 371.101 through 371.103 allows for certain qualifying individuals to obtain an exemption against Governmental Services Tax owed if they have “ownership interest” in a vehicle.

A person wishing to use a Governmental Services Tax Exemption must present to the Department an exemption voucher for “Motor Vehicle or Personal Property” obtained from the Assessor in their county of residence.

The affiant completing this affidavit must be the same person named on the exemption certificate.

“Ownership interest” means the affiant claiming the exemption is a current registered owner. However, their name is not listed on the registration certificate because the vehicle is registered in the name of their trust.
