Pennsylvania farmers who rely on crop insurance to protect their businesses from losses in bad years are facing an uphill battle this year. Due to the drought that has hit much of the country, the federal government is reducing payouts for some policies by up to 70 percent. Farmers who planted corn and other water-intensive crops may be the hardest hit, as prices for those crops have already soared because of the lack of supply. Despite these challenges, Pennsylvania's agricultural industry remains a vital part of our state's economy, and we must do everything we can to support our farmers during these difficult times. I urge Congress to pass legislation that would provide relief for Pennsylvania's farmers, and I will continue to work with my colleagues in both chambers to ensure that they receive the help they need.
