Form Cle 1 PDF Details

The Cle 1 form, pivotal for attorneys practicing in Wisconsin, is a comprehensive document designed to ensure compliance with the state's Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements. Managed by the Board of Bar Examiners, under the supervision of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, this form aids in maintaining the high standards of professionalism and legal knowledge expected from attorneys. The range of information required includes personal identification, a summary of CLE credits — broken down into categories such as approved hours attended and teaching credits — and adherence to specific requirements like the ethics and professional responsibility (EPR). Additionally, it highlights procedures for exemptions, attendance waivers, and dealing with coursework from other jurisdictions through the comity exemption. The detailed instructions serve not merely as a bureaucratic necessity but as a tool to guide lawyers through the process, ensuring they meet their educational obligations by the specified deadlines. Failure to comply or late submissions incurs penalties, emphasizing the importance the state places on continuous learning and ethical practices in the legal profession. Significantly, the form specifies that it cannot be submitted by fax and discourages scanning, pointing toward a preference for traditional paper submissions to the Board of Bar Examiners, a methodology that underscores the formal nature of the compliance process.

EPR STATEMENT

The Supreme Court of Wisconsin has mandated a 3-hour ethics and professional responsibility (EPR) requirement as part of its regular 30-hour requirement. Specify by line number those activities you have attended or taught in satisfaction of the EPR requirement:

Note that the Board of Bar Examiners must have approved an activity for EPR purposes for it to qualify.

TEACHING

TEACHING CREDIT: SCR 31.05(3) governs teaching credit. Lawyers who teach approved courses are entitled to claim an additional hour for each hour taught. Indicate the number of hours actually taught in the "Hours Taught" column and double that number in the adjacent column. Lawyers who also attended a portion of the course may claim attendance credit for those hours in the "Attendance" portion of the form. To receive proper credit, list attendance and teaching separately. Teaching an entire law school course yields one hour for each hour taught.
