Young Driver Learner Logbook (class C learner licence)

If you are required to comply with the young driver learner logbook requirement, you must lodge your logbook with the Department of Transport and Main Roads for assessment prior to your practical driving test. If your logbook is incomplete or fails the assessment, you will not be eligible to take the test. You must lodge your completed and certified logbook via Australia Post at least 12 business days before your practical driving test. An approved logbook is only valid for three years. Important information for overseas driver licence holders

If you do not pass your practical driving test you can no longer drive in Queensland using your overseas licence. You may use your overseas licence to undertake another driving test or apply for a Queensland Learner Licence to continue to learn to drive.

The test vehicle

The test vehicle must meet the following minimum vehicle standards:

•be currently registered and be in a legal roadworthy condition

•have seat belts fitted in accordance with Australian Design Rules

•if the vehicle is a convertible, have the roof up

•if the vehicle has a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) over 12 tonnes, it must carry three portable triangular red reflectorised warning signs

•for class LR, MR or HR truck tests, the test vehicle must be a rigid truck. A bobtail prime mover is not acceptable

•for class LR bus test, the test vehicle must be more than 4.5 tonne GVM but not more than 8 tonne GVM. A bus of 4.5 tonne GVM or less that is built or fitted to carry more than 12 adults (including the driver) is not acceptable for the test.

It is recommended that all applicants being tested for a motorbike licence ensure that they are wearing suitable protective clothing.

If the construction of the test vehicle has been altered from the manufacturer’s specifications, you or the registered operator will need to produce suitable evidence that these modifications have been approved.

If the test vehicle is a dangerous goods vehicle, such as a petrol tanker, you or the registered operator, must have a certificate issued stating that its tanks have been emptied and flushed for this driving test.

About the Q-SAFE Practical driving test

•The Q-SAFE practical driving test has been designed to evaluate your ability to drive safely and correctly in different driving situations which may include a variety of speed zones.

•The Driving Examiner will be asking you to undertake a series of driving tasks throughout the test. You will be given clear directions and ample time to perform these tasks.

•If the Driving Examiner does not give you any specific directions during the on-road drive, please just follow the road and be directed by road signs, signals and markings. You will be expected to perform the driving tasks when conditions are safe and in accordance with the road rules.

•At no time during the assessment will the Driving Examiner ask you to perform any driving tasks that are illegal. The Driving Examiner will mark the assessment report form as you drive.

•If your vehicle is fitted with blind spot mirrors, you are still required to conduct shoulder checks to ensure there are no vehicles in the blind spot.

•If you have any questions you should refer these to the Driving Examiner before your test commences. Once the test has commenced, the Driving Examiner will not answer any questions that may influence your driving performance.

•Following your test drive the Driving Examiner will give you an assessment report form and explain the markings. You may have a third person (such as your driver trainer) present to hear this explanation.
