PURPOSE

Created in 2002, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards are designed to honor outstanding public school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment. Through this program, H-E-B seeks to pay tribute to those educators who go the extra mile each and every day to serve their students and their communities and who inspire others to do the same.

ELIGIBILITY ฀•฀Active฀Public฀School฀Principal฀with฀a฀minimum฀of฀ive฀years฀of฀experience฀as฀a฀campus฀level฀principal;฀minimum฀of฀two

consecutive years on the same campus ฀•฀State฀certiied฀public฀school฀principals฀currently฀administrating฀over฀a฀school฀within฀60฀miles฀of฀an฀H-E-B฀or

฀฀฀฀Central฀Market฀Store

฀•฀Proven฀community฀leader

฀•฀Current฀TASSP฀and฀TEPSA฀Statewide฀oficers฀are฀not฀eligible

฀•฀Principals฀who฀have฀been฀previously฀selected฀as฀a฀statewide฀winner฀are฀not฀eligible฀to฀reapply

CRITERIA Nominees฀will฀be฀judged฀according฀to฀the฀Texas฀Professional฀Standards฀for฀Principals฀with฀special฀emphasis฀on: ฀•฀Leadership฀and฀Campus฀Culture

฀•฀Instructional฀Leadership฀and฀Management

฀•฀Communication฀and฀Community฀Relations

EVALUATION PROCESS All฀written฀applications฀will฀be฀screened฀and฀scored฀by฀a฀team฀of฀professional฀readers.฀Regional฀inalists฀will฀be฀selected฀by฀ a฀panel฀of฀judges฀comprised฀of฀educators,฀administrators฀and฀community฀leaders.฀There฀are฀ive฀identiied฀regions฀within฀the฀ H-E-B฀service฀area฀and฀two฀(2)฀inalists฀will฀be฀selected฀from฀each฀area,฀one฀elementary฀and฀one฀secondary.

Applications฀from฀the฀ten฀(10)฀inalists฀will฀then฀be฀reviewed฀by฀the฀statewide฀selection฀committee.฀The฀committee฀will

conduct personal interviews with each candidate during a special two-day event to be held in May 2013. The event will culminate with the announcement of two (2) overall statewide winners during a recognition dinner and celebration.

AWARDS

The฀ten฀(10)฀regional฀inalists฀will฀be฀notiied฀of฀their฀selection฀on฀their฀individual฀campuses฀beginning฀in฀February. During฀surprise฀visits฀from฀H-E-B฀oficials฀and฀members฀of฀the฀community,฀each฀inalist฀will฀be฀presented฀with฀a฀check฀for฀ $1,000฀for฀themselves฀plus฀a฀$2,500฀grant฀for฀their฀schools.฀In฀addition,฀each฀inalist฀will฀receive฀an฀all-expense฀paid฀trip

to the awards celebration in May including a special reception in their honor.
