Inz 1187 Form PDF Details

For performing artists, entertainers, film and video production crew, and associated support personnel eyeing opportunities to showcase their talents or work in New Zealand, navigating the process to secure the appropriate visa is a critical step. The INZ 1187 form, issued in July 2015, serves as the gateway for these individuals to apply for a Work Visa specifically tailored for their unique professional needs. This comprehensive application not only requires detailed personal and professional information from the applicant but also involves a supplementary form to be completed by the employer, production company, or promoter in New Zealand, ensuring that both parties meet the immigration and labor standards set forth by the country. With separate paths for applicants within and outside New Zealand, the process is meticulously designed to screen for eligibility, assess health and character requirements, and confirm the financial readiness of applicants to support their stay. Costs associated with the application, health insurance recommendations, and the importance of securing professional advice compliant with the Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007 are highlighted to prepare applicants for a smooth transition. Whether the aim is to engage in a short or lengthy project, ensuring compliance with all outlined requirements, from submission to the right Immigration New Zealand office to meeting work visa conditions, is paramount in paving the way for a successful professional stint in New Zealand's vibrant entertainment and production industry.

Personnel Work Visa Application

About this form

This application form is for performing artists, entertainers, ilm and video production crew, and associated support personnel, who intend to engage in any form of private or public performance in New Zealand or work on any entertainment production in New Zealand.

This form is divided into two parts. You (the applicant) must complete the Work Visa Application (sections A to I) and your employer/production company/promoter must complete the Supplementary Form (sections J to L). Guides to completing both the application form and the supplementary form are located after each form.

You must also provide an additional copy of the supplementary form along with supporting documentation to the relevant professional association, union or guild unless your contract in New Zealand:

is for 14 days or less, or

will be undertaken on an oficial co-production, or

is with a company that holds entertainment industry accreditation.

Where do you send your application and documents?

Applicants who are overseas

Send your completed application form and documents to your nearest Immigration New Zealand ofice, New Zealand Embassy, or New Zealand High Commission.

You are a New Zealand citizen.

You hold a New Zealand residence class visa.

You hold a special temporary (diplomatic, consular or oficial) visa.

You hold a military visa.

If you are an Australian citizen or the holder of a current Australian permanent residence visa or a current Australian resident return visa, you do not need a visa to travel to New Zealand. You must apply for a resident visa on arrival. You will do this by completing an arrival card on the aircraft/ ship on your way to New Zealand and presenting it to an immigration oficer after you arrive.

What is a visa and what does it allow?

A work visa allows you to work in New Zealand for a limited amount of time.

You can apply for a work visa before travelling to

New Zealand. A work visa granted offshore will allow you to travel to the New Zealand border. When you arrive, an immigration oficer will check that you still meet the criteria under which your visa was granted. If so, you will be granted entry permission to work in New Zealand.

You can also apply for a work visa once you are already in New Zealand. Whether you apply onshore or offshore, your work visa may include travel conditions allowing a single entry (valid for one journey) or multiple entry (valid for more than one journey).

A work visa may be endorsed in your passport or may be granted electronically, in which case you need to have and keep a printed copy.

Applicants who are in New Zealand

Send your completed application form and documents to your nearest Immigration New Zealand ofice.

For ofice addresses, see

www.immigration.govt.nz/contactus.

Do you need a visa to work in

New Zealand?

You do not need a work visa to work in New Zealand if one of the following applies to you.

What is on a work visa?

A work visa will state the expiry date of your visa, the expiry date of your travel conditions (if you have any), and the conditions of your visa. The conditions may include:

the type of employment

the employer’s name

where in New Zealand you can work.

immigration.govt.nz

How long can you stay and work in New Zealand?

Some work instructions specify the duration that visas can be granted for, others are linked to the duration of your offer of employment.

If your work visa is nearing expiry, you can apply for a further visa. There is no limit on the number of further visas you may obtain, however the requirements of the instructions that you apply under must continue to be met.

How much does a work visa cost?

For up-to-date information about fees:

see our Fees Guide (INZ 1028)

see our website www.immigration.govt.nz/fees

contact your nearest Immigration New Zealand ofice.

Our New Zealand ofices do not accept cash. Most of our ofices outside New Zealand do not accept cash.

What rules must employers meet?

All employers* who want to employ foreign workers or students to work in New Zealand must comply with relevant employment and immigration law. Generally, this includes:

paying employees no less than the appropriate adult or youth minimum wage or other contracted industry standard

meeting holiday and special leave requirements or other minimum statutory criteria, eg occupational safety and health obligations

only employing people who have authority to work in New Zealand.

Under some instructions, the rules may be slightly different.

An employer may not employ a person who holds a temporary visa or limited visa to provide commercial sexual services.

*An employer is a person who employs or engages a person to do work, whether under a contract of service (employee/employer relationship) or a contract for service (contractor).

VisaView

It is an offence for an employer to employ a person who is not entitled to work for them in New Zealand. It is also an offence for an education provider to allow a person to undertake a course of study if that person is not entitled to do so.

VisaView is an online enquiry system that allows registered employers and education providers to check whether a person who is not a New Zealand citizen can work or study in New Zealand for them.

If you believe that an employer or education provider has been given the wrong information via VisaView you may contact the Immigration Contact Centre (0508 558 855) to request correction of that information.

Will you be eligible for publicly funded health care in New Zealand?

The Ministry of Health determines eligibility for publicly funded health care in New Zealand. To see if you are eligible visit the Ministry of Health website www.moh.govt.nz/eligibility.

People covered by New Zealand’s reciprocal health agreements with Australia and the United Kingdom are entitled to publicly funded health care for immediately necessary medical treatment only.

If you seek health care when you are in New Zealand you should carry your passport so that health providers can check whether you are eligible for publicly funded health care. We strongly recommend that you arrange comprehensive health insurance for your stay in New Zealand.

Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007

Under the Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007 it is an offence to provide immigration advice without being licensed or exempt. If your immigration adviser is not licensed when they should be, Immigration New Zealand will return your application.

For more information and to view the register of licensed advisers, go to the Immigration Advisers Authority website www.iaa.govt.nz or email info@iaa.govt.nz.

Lawyers provide immigration advice and are exempt from licensing under the Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007. For more information and to view the register of immigration lawyers, go to the New Zealand Law Society website www.lawsociety.org.nz.
