The Nassau NC 425 form serves as a crucial document for homeowners seeking to avail themselves of the Basic School Tax Relief (STAR) Exemption in Nassau County, New York. Specifically crafted by the Nassau County Department of Assessment, this application is designed to reduce school taxes for those who own and occupy their homes as their primary residence, encompassing a wide range of property types including one, two, or three-family homes, mobile homes, farm homes, condominiums, cooperative apartments, and multiple-use properties partially utilized as the owner's primary dwelling. Eligibility for the Basic STAR exemption is open to all homeowners, regardless of age or income. This includes senior citizens whose earnings do not meet the threshold for the Enhanced STAR. To ensure proper processing, applicants are required to provide comprehensive information including ownership details, evidence of their property being their primary residence, and a certification that all provided information is accurate. Importantly, the STAR exemption necessitates notification and re-application if there is a change in either the homeowner's primary residence or property deed. Integrity in the application process is underscored by stringent penalties for false representation. The form stipulates a deadline for submission, highly recommended to be observed before December 31 due to the high volume of applications processed. Through the provision of such an exemption, the Nassau County Department of Assessment aims to alleviate the financial burden of school taxes on homeowners, making the Nassau NC 425 form a vital tool for eligible residents.
