Define why you are signing the form

Usually, this form is completed when someone needs a pet’s photos for promotion, filming, portfolio, or somewhat similar. As a photographer, you should clearly state why you need the photos, explaining to the owner where the photos and videos will appear.

Remember that a pet photo release form does not guarantee the owner any payments or royalties for the pet’s images. If you are the photographer, pay attention to the conditions stated in the form and the actions you conduct after signing the paper. Once you have understood both these points, proceed to the next step.

Meet the other party

You must insert the name of the other party. If you are the photographer, introduce the pet owner, and vice versa.

If you are the owner, you should trust the photographer. If you are the photographer, pay attention to the pet’s state and the owner’s behavior while filming or taking pictures. Both sides of the contract should discuss the process in advance.

1. Agree on what is allowed. Talk through which photos or videos the photographer will take and where they will appear. Then check that the form matches that conversation.
2. Check the details. Make sure the names, the pet information and the contact details are spelled the same way on every line before anyone signs.
3. Share copies. After the owner signs, give the photographer a copy and keep one for yourself. Store both with the other records for the shoot.
