Common Questions About the AWS Visual Acuity Form
What does the Jaeger J2 test measure?
The Jaeger J2 test measures near vision acuity. Applicants must be able to read the J2 line on the chart at a distance of 12 inches or more. This test confirms that candidates have the close-up vision needed to perform precise inspection work.
Can I use glasses or contacts for the examination?
Yes. The AWS standard allows corrective lenses during the examination. The form documents whether the applicant passed with or without correction. Both results are accepted for certification purposes.
What happens if I miss the submission deadline?
Missing the deadline can result in voided exam scores and loss of your application fees. CAWI, CWI, and SCWI candidates have 60 days after the exam to submit. All other programs must submit within 30 days.
Do I need to submit a new form for recertification?
Yes. A current Visual Acuity Record must be on file for recertification and renewals. Contact the AWS Certification Department to confirm whether a new examination is required for your specific program.
