For example, when you file your taxes, you might need to use Form 8879, the IRS's Self-Employment Tax Declaration and Payment Voucher. This form is used to figure out how much self-employment tax you owe. Thankfully, the form is not too difficult to complete. Here's what you need to know about it. First, the form asks for your name and address, as well as your Social Security number or employer identification number. Then, it asks about your business activity. You will need to enter either Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ (from Publication 334) here. Next, the form asks for information on your net earnings from self-employment. Finally, it asks for payment information. You will need to include either a check or money order payable to the "United States Treasury."
