In the realm of vehicle maintenance and environmental responsibility, the Required Vehicle Repair Data form plays a critical role. This form, which must be filled out following a vehicle's failure in an emissions test, stands as a necessary step before the automobile can be reevaluated or considered for a waiver. Only repairs conducted by recognized technicians on vehicles from the year 1981 or later are deemed eligible for such waivers. The form acts as a bridge between motorists, repair technicians, and regulatory requirements, ensuring that repairs related to emissions are documented and verifiable. It specifies various sections to be completed by different parties—from the motorist or the repair technician who conducted the emissions-related repairs, to detailed information about the repair facility itself. Moreover, the form connects to broader legal and environmental frameworks by referencing the vehicle's eligibility for warranty repair under Section 207 of the Clean Air Act, setting a minimum spend for waiver eligibility, and linking repairs to broader emissions standards and vehicle inspection laws. Additionally, it touches on the readiness of a vehicle's Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) system for retesting, mentioning specific scenarios and systems that could affect a vehicle’s readiness for inspection, thus pointing to the interconnected nature of vehicle maintenance, legal compliance, and environmental stewardship. This document not only facilitates regulatory compliance but also encourages vehicle owners to engage with qualified professionals to ensure their vehicles meet required emissions standards, highlighting the document's role in environmental protection efforts.

Information Regarding OBD Tests – Readiness Rejects
Your vehicle cannot pass the OBD I/M test if during the test it is determined that critical emissions control systems have not been completely diagnosed by the vehicle’s OBD system. In this case, the vehicle is considered NOT READY for inspection and may be REJECTED. This can happen if you have recently had power train service conducted on your vehicle, replaced the battery, or if your battery has run down.
The diagnostic system is designed to evaluate critical emissions control systems during normal driving. This make take several days of routine driving. If you have done this and the vehicle is still REJECTED, consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual and/or see your dealer or a recognized repair technician to assist you in preparing the vehicle for inspection.
