The NCL parental consent form is an official document signed by the parents or legal representatives of a child who is going to travel on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship without parents. This form grants the child the right to travel with another accompanying adult.
The accompanying person, who must be over 21 years old, receives some rights and responsibilities for decision-making and child care during the cruise. For instance, in an emergency situation in which there is a threat to the child’s health, the accompanying adult themselves can decide on the admissibility of medical intervention. It is they who sign the necessary consent to provide medical services to the child during the cruise. Moreover, the accompanying adult signs waivers from the child’s participation in sports activities.
The consent form is filled in when a child under the age of majority travels without parents on a cruise liner. Before the start of the cruise, the parents or legal representatives of the child must fill out this form and notarize it.
In addition, the NCL parental consent form may be needed if the child is traveling with only one of the parents. Then the second parent must also sign a consent form for the transfer of decision-making rights regarding the child to one parent for the duration of the cruise.
Most cruise companies have strict travel requirements for children. NCL is no exception. In general, children over 6 months old can be present on a cruise ship accompanied by their parents. However, if the cruise lasts more than three days, then only children who have reached the age of 12 months are allowed on the ship.
For most cruises, there is a single rule: all children under the age of 18 must be on the ship accompanied by their parents, legal representatives, or an accompanying adult who has been delegated authority in accordance with the NCL parental consent form. However, if one of the stops during the cruise takes place in the USA, China, or Canada, then these rules apply to persons under the age of 21.
Thus, in the cases described above, parents are required to fill out a form and hand it over to an accompanying adult. Otherwise, when checking documents during boarding, the NCL employees cannot allow the child to board the ship. Please note that having a passport or a birth certificate is not sufficient.
