When considering the sale of valuable items through auction, the Sotheby’s Gratis Auction Estimate Form serves as an essential initial step towards understanding the potential auction value of these items. This complimentary service provided by Sotheby’s allows individuals to gain preliminary auction estimates for their valuables without incurring any cost. The form requests detailed information and clear color photographs of each item, focusing on various aspects such as front and back views, maker’s marks, signatures, and any damage areas, to ensure a comprehensive review by specialists. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of providing extensive information about each item, including previous valuations, to assist in the accuracy of the estimate. Sotheby’s commitment to service is highlighted by their patience request due to the high volume of estimate requests and their clear communication regarding minimum consignment values for items in New York and London. The form also covers necessary contact information and the steps to submit the form and accompanying materials to Sotheby’s for review. It is crucial for individuals seeking auction estimates to understand that these preliminary figures are subject to change upon direct inspection by a Sotheby’s specialist and that the service aims at providing a helpful starting point for considering auction sales.
