Dat1 Form PDF Details

In the digital age, transparency and access to personal data held by law enforcement agencies are vital components of privacy rights and legal due diligence. The Form DAT1 emerges as a beacon of these rights within the context of the Police Service for Northern Ireland (PSNI), offering individuals a structured pathway to access personal data stored about them in PSNI information systems. Predicated on the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998, specifically under Sections 7(1)(a) and 7(1)(c)(i), the form empowers individuals with the ability to inquire if and what personal data the PSNI holds on them – a reflection of the broader subject access rights afforded to individuals. This application process, however, is not without its caveats; the PSNI reserves the right to withhold personal data under certain conditions, such as if its release is deemed likely to prejudice policing purposes or reveal identifiers of other individuals. A nominal fee of £10 underscores the procedure, emphasizing the fiscal aspect of the data retrieval process. Applicants are guided to provide proof of identity, a safeguarding measure that ensures the integrity of the request and protects the personal data from potential misappropriation. The journey of submitting the form entails a careful gathering of required documents and the adherence to instructions regarding fee payment, identity verification, and postal submission to the PSNI Data Protection Office. Failure to comply with these stipulated requirements could lead to delays or non-fulfillment of the application. Such a structured approach to personal data access underscores a broader commitment to data protection and individual rights, emblematic of the intricate balance between privacy and the operational necessities of law enforcement.
