Who Can Apply
Close family members of the deceased, including spouses, parents, children, and siblings, may apply. Legal representatives and individuals with a documented legal need, such as property rights determination, are also eligible. All applicants must provide a valid government-issued photo ID.
Fees and Payment
A standard fee applies to each certified copy requested. An additional charge applies for death certificates requiring an Apostille. Expedited service is available for an added fee. Payment is accepted by money order or credit card. Search fees are non-refundable regardless of outcome.
Submission Methods and Processing Times
You may submit your completed form by mail, fax, or in person at the Bureau of Vital Statistics. Standard processing takes 2 to 3 weeks. Expedited requests are processed within 3 business days. Express delivery to and from Alaska requires a minimum of two additional days.
