Iowa Small Claims Form 3.11, Appearance and Answer of Defendant(s), is the defendant's response in an Iowa District Court small claims case. It names the county, the plaintiffs, the defendants and the small claim number, and the defendant checks one answer: the claim is denied, the claim is admitted (judgment may be entered), or the claim is admitted in part in a stated amount. When the claim is denied or admitted in part, the parties receive electronic notification of the hearing time and place through the Iowa Judicial Branch Electronic Document Management System (EDMS). The form must be filed electronically through EDMS unless the court grants an exemption, and EDMS then serves a copy on the plaintiffs or their attorneys. It is signed by the filing defendant or attorney, and by a second defendant if applicable, with mailing address, telephone number and email address.
