DD Form 1434 is the official customs form for U.S. military personnel and civilian employees importing personal effects into the United Kingdom. Also known as the Custom Declaration Template 1434, this 2-page form covers household goods, unaccompanied baggage, and any prohibited or restricted items in the shipment.
Before UK customs clearance, you must declare the full contents of your entire shipment. Items requiring disclosure include tobacco goods, wines and spirits, firearms, controlled substances, and commercial goods. Any omission can result in financial penalties, item seizure, or criminal charges under UK customs law.
The form requires your full name, rank or grade, current duty station, and specific details about every item being imported. Review each entry carefully and verify the accuracy of your declarations before signing. UK customs authorities treat any inaccuracies as intentional violations.
U.S. forces and civilian personnel who do not file the DD Form 1434 risk having their household goods detained or assessed for full import duty at the point of UK entry. Completing the form before your move eliminates these risks and keeps your shipment on schedule.
Military personnel relocating household goods may also need an Inventory of Personal Effects to document belongings. For U.S. re-entry customs, see CBP Form 6059B. International postal shipments often require the CN-23 Customs Declaration form instead.
