A bill of sale in Nebraska for a motor vehicle is a written record a seller gives a buyer when a vehicle changes hands privately. It names the parties, describes the vehicle, and states the price.[4] Nebraska law calls for a bill of sale, or a completed Department of Revenue Form 6, for most private motor vehicle sales.[1]

A Nebraska motor vehicle bill of sale is the written documentation state law requires a seller to give the buyer at the time of sale. It names both parties, describes the vehicle, and states the price.[4] Follow these steps to fill out the form correctly.
Step 1. Indicate the date of sale
First, you need to state the actual date when the motor vehicle was sold.

Step 2. Specify the selling price
The seller fills out this section, stating the total sale price. The seller also writes down the name of the transferor (the person selling the vehicle) and the transferee (the person buying it). Nebraska law requires the sale price and the parties’ names in the document.[4]

Step 3. Describe the vehicle sold
In this section, the seller must provide valid information regarding the motor vehicle, such as:
Nebraska law requires the vehicle’s year and identification number in the bill of sale.[4]

Step 4. Provide the transferor information
Clarify the contact details of the vehicle seller, providing their full name, address (street, city, state, and zip code), and phone number. Nebraska law requires the seller’s name in the document.[4]

Step 5. Give the transferee information
Here, you must provide the contact information of the person who purchases the motor vehicle. Similar to the seller, the buyer must write down their full name, physical address (street number, city, state, and zip code), and phone number. Nebraska law requires the buyer’s name in the document.[4]

Step 6. Provide the parties’ signatures
The seller and buyer each sign and date the bill of sale, and the form provides a line for a witness signature as well.[4]

Step 7. Review the miscellaneous provisions
Read the miscellaneous provisions section before you sign. It covers the condition of the vehicle and the rest of the parties’ agreement.
Step 8. Notarize the bill of sale
Nebraska does not require notarization for an ordinary vehicle sale. The form still includes a notary acknowledgment on its last page. Complete it only in the rare case Nebraska law does require a notarized bill of sale. That case is a vehicle more than 30 years old with no title issued for it in that time.[3]

This is what the Nebraska motor vehicle bill of sale form looks like once someone fills it out, page by page. Compare your own entries against this example before you print, sign, and hand it to the other party, so nothing is left blank.

Most people who buy a vehicle in Nebraska, or move to the state with one, register it with the county treasurer. Registration typically calls for the vehicle’s title, proof of insurance, and a receipt for any sales tax paid.
Buyers typically gather the paperwork below and present it to the Nebraska DMV or County Treasurer’s Office in person. They also pay the fees and taxes the office calculates from the vehicle’s value. The Nebraska DMV lists the documents needed at the time of the presentation:
Application for Certificate of Title (Form RV-707) is used to ensure successful vehicle or boat registration.

A motor vehicle power of attorney helps a person temporarily hand over legal rights and the right of signature to another person.

Form 33-090 or Application for Boat Number and Certificate is the form required for boat registration and titling in Nebraska.

Fill out an Application for Duplicate Certificate of Title (Form RV-707a) if you’ve lost or damaged your original title certificate.

Form NSP 1710 or Concealed Handgun Permit Application is used to apply for a firearm permit in Nebraska.
