The Judicial Branch is one of the three co-equal branches of government in the United States. It was created to provide a check and balance on the other two branches and ensure that no one branch has too much power. The Judicial Branch includes the federal courts and state courts. Each state has its own court system, which is divided into trial courts and appellate courts. The trial courts hear civil and criminal cases, while the appellate courts hear cases that have been appealed from the trial courts. The Judicial Branch also administers the law, including by issuing rulings in cases that come before it. In this post, we will take a closer look at the different forms that are used by judicial branch entities.
