Situations when people decide to leave one job for another one happen quite frequently. Living in the modern progressive society, the ones intending to change their workplace have to complete specific legal papers to make the process for both parties as comfortable as possible. If you want to quit your job and maintain a positive relationship with your employer, you need to do it right. For this, you should fill out the letter of resignation.
There are various reasons why employees decide to quit their job. Here’s a list of some of them.
You might decide to go on a trip around the world, which means you won’t continue working in the company. Finish the letter of resignation to inform your employer about your plans.
You might understand you no longer want to stay in a position that doesn’t provide you with professional opportunities in your career.
Why staying in one position when you’re offered another one with a bigger salary and greater job opportunities? You don’t have to. You have all power to choose job conditions that suit you best.
It would be better for you if you mention you’re quitting your job due to moving to another state or country because, in this case, your employer will update your contact information. It is a neutral reason for leaving your workplace, as you don’t put any personal issues in the resigning process.
Even if you’re a volunteer, and no one pays for your job, it’s still preferable to inform your company about your resignation. If you maintain a positive relationship with your employer, it will serve you in the future and provide good recommendations.
There are other reasons why someone decides to leave their job, but note you don’t have to state the reason. According to the at-will unemployment laws, you have the right to keep the reason confidential, and employers can’t force you to reveal it. Though, in some situations, it’s better to state the reason to leave a positive impression after your resignation.
There are twelve types of resignation letters, and here’s the list of them:
It is the most preferable and most common notice. Two weeks is enough for your employer to find a new person to perform your duties. Note that sometimes employers can ask you to leave without working two weeks after the resignation announcement. That’s something you need to consider before saying about your resignation decision. Make sure you have enough savings to go through the non-working period without extra stress.
You can notify your employer about the resignation seven days before quitting the job. To keep a positive relationship with your company, one can offer to work overtime or have extra hours. In this case, the business has enough time to find a new person and prepare them for your position.
When you understand you have to quit the job immediately and can’t stay for the compensation period of two weeks, you can resign immediately. In this case, try to write a resignation letter explaining why you do it in such a hurry. It might help you keep a positive relationship with your employer.
You can notify your employer, HR, or colleagues about your resignation decision by sending them a resignation letter via email.
It’s a formal letter that you need to make polite and short and send it to HR and your supervisor afterward.
A standard resignation letter has to be sent to HR or a supervisor. Fill in all key resignation details in the resignation letter.
An individual completes this letter and sends it to the director or another authorized person asking for a specific period or an immediate discharge. In turn, the office can decide to decline your resignation or provide you some time if there are certain obligations left after you quit.
You need to complete this resignation letter’s type if you want to leave some religious organization position. Send this letter to a pastor, and don’t forget to cover the logistics expenses.
Teachers willing to quit their position at school have to notify the school administration about their decision as soon as possible. Ideally, they have to notify at least two weeks before their resignation, so the school has time to find someone who will substitute the vacating teacher.
Nurses intending to stop their duties in a hospital must notify the administration about their intention. Preferably they do it six-eight weeks before resignation so a hospital can find a qualified nurse for their position. Usually, nurses who resign train nurses taking their place during that period of six-eight weeks.
People of the pre-retirement age, deliberating on quitting their job and wishing to get retirement benefits, must complete the resignation letter. They need to deliver it to their supervisor six to twelve months before the resignation. This time is required because usually retiring people are professionals, and the company needs more time to find some decent substitution for their position.
In this case, while completing the resignation letter, try not to include any disagreements with your supervisor and other officers. Doing it will guarantee you good recommendations from your former workplace, and, therefore, an opportunity to find a new position as fast as possible.

If you work in the healthcare industry, note that you need to leave a notice period of more than just two weeks (at least one month) because it takes more time to find a qualified specialist in this sphere.

In the last part, insert a printed name and append the signature. Also, add a polite sign-off, such as “Respectfully,” “Sincerely,” “Respectfully Yours,” “Best Regards.” It will show the sincerity and friendly nature of your actions.
Deliver the Resignation Letter
You can deliver your resignation letter by mail or e-mail if there’s no opportunity to do it personally. However, the best way to inform your company about your resignation is verbal: go to your supervisor or HR, tell them you’re about to resign, and hand them your resignation letter. Try to do it positively, so you keep a good relationship with your former employer. It’s important as your future work recommendations depend on it.
