• Two recent passport photographs taken within the past six months, printed on high-quality photo paper and meeting official size and clarity requirements
• Proof of British nationality, such as a full birth certificate showing your parents' details, a naturalisation certificate, or a registration certificate
• Your most recent passport if you are renewing or replacing a previously issued document
• A countersignature from a professional who has known you for at least two years, such as a doctor, teacher, accountant, or solicitor
• Any additional documents specific to your application type, such as a marriage or deed poll certificate for a name change, or evidence of parental consent for a child application

Avoiding Common Application Delays

Applications are delayed most often due to photographs that do not meet official requirements. Your photos must be taken against a plain, light-coloured background with no shadows and must show your full face without glasses. Do not leave any section of the form blank. Write "Not applicable" wherever a question does not apply to your situation. Any corrections to the form must be initialled rather than corrected with covering fluid. Missing a required supporting document, or submitting a document that has expired, also commonly causes delays.
