What Is the Colorado Form DR 2410?

The Colorado DR 2410 is the official state form for applying for a Salvage Certificate of Title or a Nonrepairable Title. The Colorado Department of Revenue, Division of Motor Vehicles, processes this application. The form has been in use since March 3, 2015, and applies to most standard motor vehicles registered in Colorado.

You must file this form when a vehicle suffers damage from accidents, fires, floods, or vandalism. The damage must exceed the vehicle's fair market value at the time of the incident. Hail damage alone does not meet this requirement under Colorado law. Several vehicle types are not eligible for these titles, including off-highway vehicles, snowmobiles, collector's items, horseless carriages, and street rod vehicles.

To complete the Colorado DR 2410 form, you will need the vehicle identification number (VIN), proof of ownership, and written documentation of the damage cause. The owner must confirm in writing that no liens are outstanding on the vehicle. The form also asks you to specify the ownership type for the vehicle. Colorado recognizes two options: joint tenancy with rights of survivorship, and tenancy in common.

There are two possible outcomes when you file Colorado Form DR 2410. If you intend to repair the vehicle and return it to the road, you apply for a Salvage Certificate of Title. Once repairs are complete and the vehicle passes inspection, you can then apply for a Rebuilt from Salvage Certificate of Title. If the vehicle will not be repaired and will be used for parts only, you apply for a Nonrepairable Title instead. A Nonrepairable Title permanently removes the vehicle from the road and cannot be reversed. The Division of Motor Vehicles reviews each application and issues the appropriate title based on the owner's declared intent.

After completing repairs, owners may apply for a duplicate certificate of title to document the vehicle's restored status. For other Colorado motor vehicle documents, you may also need the Colorado DR 2401 form for additional title transactions, or a motor vehicle ownership affidavit to confirm your right to transfer the vehicle.
