There are several types of power of attorney, and each one has its own form. The principal is you, the person who gives the powers. The agent is the person who receives them.
Signing is the step that makes the document usable, so take your time with it. A Missouri durable, limited or general power of attorney must be signed by the principal, dated, and acknowledged in the manner the law prescribes for conveyances of real estate.[1]
A person named as agent in a Missouri durable, limited or general power of attorney has no duty to use its authority, unless the agent has expressly agreed in writing to act for the principal. A Missouri durable, limited or general power of attorney does not have to be recorded to be valid and binding between the principal and the agent or between the principal and third persons.[1]
